Waves of anxiety suddenly turn into a sinking feeling, the last days of holiday are drawing in. My mind starts to drift, is Holiday Bluesitis (HB) a plausible medical condition? Has anyone ever had a sick note for a chronic case of the HB? Can I pull the wool over my bosses eyes?! Probably not.
Mass hysteria soon took over, my holiday companions became awash with the all consuming ‘back-to-work’ dread. Holiday was almost over for another year and I cannot breathe.
After taking to Dr. Google for a cure it was evident that stepping away from the virtual world and speaking to actual human beings, face to face, ‘ye old fashioned way’ was my only chance. I needed to scrutinise facial expressions, reactions and validate a treatment plan to overcome this post holiday slump.
The people have spoken so I have collated some of the suggested natural cures, all of which are tried and tested with reassuring results. Here goes:
Clean: OK, hear me out…. Before going away clean the house and the car, returning to a tidy nest and clean motor significantly reduces the sense of dread.
Stock up: Fill the car up, restock log and oil stores and preorder a food shop to avoid any of those mundane chores, it also promotes a sense of smugness.
Cure and the cause: A cheeky weekend in the diary before you go away means having something else to look forward to. Be warned, this will result in a spiral of constant holiday and weekend tripping greatly impacting on bank balances.
Be mindful: This will take some practise before you travel, mindfulness focuses on the present moment without getting to hung up on the past or the future. Being present on those last days of holiday can significantly reduce the sense of impending doom and it’s completely free!
Restore: Financial and life restrictions mean another trip may be a none starter. Try booking in for some restorative reflexology to kick start the holiday detox and promote a sense of total inner peace for mind, body and spirit.
Aromatherapy: Have your favourite aroma’s at the ready, citrus blends can support joyfulness and emotionally balancing blends such as white fir and frankincense can be grounding while restorative. Roll or diffuse the oils.
Eat yourself happy: take note of your favourite holiday foods and recipes, implementing them into your regular diet trigger the senses and happy hormones, totally zapping those sad sensations.
Walk: When you holiday there is an element of exploring and spending more time than usual outside. Stay happy and get outdoors, increased expose to sunlight and the natural elements help to prolong that holiday relaxation.
It’s 1 week post holiday and daily doses of the above have kept me afloat. I display no prolonged symptoms of Holiday Bluesitis and I continue to make a speedy recovery, all things considered.
Stay well, Roo x
